Anxiety & Panic Attacks
Many people experience anxiety due to a stressful event but anxiety disorders commonly occur with physical symptoms such as heart palpitation, fatigue, shortness of breath, and headaches. Some people also experience sweating and stomach aches.
Anxiety can interfere with relationships and can affect daily living. A person may feel restless, irritable, and fearful that something bad is going to happen. Persons who suffer from anxiety often can’t stop worrying and the worry is often unrealistic or out of proportion to the situation.
The National Institute of Mental Health states that “Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress…but when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling disorder.”
Panic Attacks are an intense fear or anxiety.
Some people who suffer from panic attacks have said they were
afraid they were having a heart attack. Panic
attacks can be scary but they can be treated to reduce symptoms.
A situation can cause fear but situational anxiety tends to be more exaggerated or unrealistic.
